ecoSPEARS is an in-situ sediment remediation technology to treat PCBs, dioxins, PAHs, DDT, and other persistent toxins.

Clean Sediment Technology
Our ecoSPEARS (Sorbent Polymer Extraction and Remediation System) technology is a transformative in-situ green cleanup system for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dioxins, PAHs, DDT, and other persistent toxins from contaminated sediment. ecoSPEARS is a truly sustainable approach using less water, energy, and emissions than traditional cleanup methods.
ecoSPEARS is a plastic mat technology that is filled with our proprietary green solvent and then inserted into a scalable geosynthetic mat liner. The mat liners are then deployed down into the contaminated sediment where they act like a "sponge", passively absorbing PCBs from the sediment around it.
NASA-developed green technology to remediate PCBs in contaminated sediment
ecoSPEARS is written into both the International Pollutants Elimination Network (IPEN) non-combustion technology for Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Waste Destruction and the UNEP Stockholm Convention Guidance on Best Available Techniques (BAT) and Best Environmental Practices (BEP) for managing sites co-contaminated with persistent toxins.
Features:
Sustainable Approach
ecoSPEARS uses eco-friendly constituents, reducing the environmental impact of cleanup, including carbon reduction, decreasing disturbance to aquatic habitat, and eliminating reconstruction costs.
NASA-Developed
ecoSPEARS was post-validated and created at NASA. We have an exclusive license for the ecoSPEARS technology.
Cost-Effective
ecoSPEARS is a non-destructive, low maintenance alternative to dredging that safely absorbs PCBs and POPs from contaminated sediment "like a sponge" without destroying the natural aquatic habitat.
